Barcelona confirmed Neymar wants to leave

Barcelona confirmed that Neymar's wish to leave the Catalan giants on Wednesday-but insisted the Brazilian's 222 million euro ($260 million) buyout clause must be paid as his potential world record move to Paris Saint-Germain moved a step closer.

Neymar

"Neymar Jr- accompanied by his father and representative-communicated to FC Barcelona this morning his decision to leave the club," Barca said in a statement.

The club have informed them that the buyout clause in his contract that from July 1 is 222 million euros must be paid in full.
Such a fee would smash the current record £89.3 million ($111 million-105.2 million euros) Manchester United paid for Paul Pogba last year.
Neymar has also been given permission to not participate in training after making a brief appearance at Barca's training ground on Wednesday.
Speculation over the 25-year-old's future has dominated the first few weeks of new Barca boss Ernesto Valverde's reign.
Neymar arrived back in Barcelona on Tuesday from a fleeting promotional tour to China.
He turned up for training at 9am local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday morning-but left less than an hour later after telling teammates "he is leaving"-a Barca spokesperson confirmed.
Presuming both clubs don't come to a late agreement, the buyout clause would have to be paid to Barcelona via Spain's La Liga to free the player from the contract he signed last year and runs until 2021.
However-La Liga president Javier Tebas has threatened not to accept PSG's money over what he perceives as a failure on the French side's part to comply with UEFA's financial fair play rules (FFP).
Clubs can be sanctioned by UEFA for making a loss of more than 30 million euros over a three-year period.
"We will not accept this money from a club like PSG"-Tebas told Madrid sports daily AS on Wednesday.
"Especially when this club is infringing rules and laws."
Barcelona have also threatened to report PSG to UEFA over any potential breach of FFP.
PSG have already been fined and saw their Champions League squad limited by UEFA for breaches of FFP in 2014.
- Champions League dream -
Winning the Champions League for a first time is the dream driving PSG's owners Oryx Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) to fund a deal that could herald the start of a new era at the elite level of European football.
Since QSI's takeover in 2011-PSG have failed to make it beyond the quarter-final stage in recent seasons, most notably blowing a 4-0 first leg lead to lose 6-1 to a Neymar-inspired Barcelona in the last 16 of last season's competition in March.
Prising Neymar from the grip of Barca would truly announce PSG's presence as a contender for the likes of Barca,-Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to fear.
Neymar has formed one of the deadliest strike partnerships in football history with five-time World Player of the Year Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez over the past three seasons.
Yet-one justification for Neymar to jump ship on top of the reported offer to triple his salary to 30 million euros net a season-is a desire to move out of Messi's shadow if he is to end the Argentine and Cristiano Ronaldo's decade long dominance to win the Ballon d'Or.
Neymar's four-year spell in Spain has also been overshadowed by the murky transfer deal which brought him to Barcelona from Santos in 2013.

DIS owned 40 percent of the players' rights at the time of the deal and believe they were deliberately cheated out of their real share due to the complex structure of the transfer.

Lionel Messi on target as Barcelona beat Real Madrid to win ICC

Barcelona won against Real Madrid in International Champions Cup. Barcelona got the better of Real Madrid by a final score of 3-2 in the team's International Champions Cup match in Miami on Saturday night.

Winning Moment

The hype leading up to the match was matched by the drama in its opening seconds-as Neymar suffered an early injury and was forced off before returning minutes later.

Shortly after the knock to Neymar-Lionel Messi opened the scoring for Barcelona-evading Luka Modric with a deft touch and then seeing his shot take a fortuitous deflection off Raphael Varane.

Neymar made an immediate impact upon his return-dribbling down the left flank and playing the ball across the top of the penalty area where Ivan Rakitic smashed home from 18 yards to make it 2-0 inside of eight minutes.

Madrid looked shaky in the opening 10 minutes-but they quickly cut the deficit in half when Mateo Kovacic beat Gerard Pique in the 13th minute and neatly finished from 18 yards away past Jasper Cillessen.

Karim Benzema nearly had Real back on level terms-using Marco Asensio as a decoy on the counter-attack before blazing his left-footed shot just wide of the post.

Barca needed just four passes to go from their end to the Madrid penalty area in the 28th minute-with Luis Suarez setting Neymar up only for the 25-year-old's shot to roll just wide of the far post after some slick footwork.

And Asensio would level in the 36th minute on the counter attack-getting a return pass from Kovacic after a long run and firing past Cillessen after beating Jordi Alba in the penalty area and send the teams to the dressing room at 2-2.

Gerard Pique wasted no time putting Barcelona back in front in the second half-getting on the end of an inswinging Neymar free kick and volleying home over Keylor Navas after some woeful defending by Madrid.

Navas would come up big minutes later though-doing just enough to force a Neymar miss after he'd broken free in the Real Madrid penalty area.

At the other end-Cillessen answered his opposite number with a fine save from an Isco strike that looked certain to even the score between the La Liga rivals.

Wholesale changes came after the hour mark-with Messi coming off for Barcelona and the match settling into the type of pace more usual in a friendly.

However-just past the 80-minute mark-it was Cillessen denying Isco again after the attacker cut in from the left and curled a shot toward the back post that would have gone in had it not been for the fingertip save of the Barca keeper.

Pique lifts Barcelona as El Clasico lives up to hype

Gerard Pique showed his quality against Real Madrid in a most important match. He delivered Barcelona’s match winner over Real Madrid on Saturday as El Clasico Miami lived up to the hype.

Gerard Pique

The Spanish international steered in a Neymar free-kick in the 50th minute to seal a 3-2 win for the Catalan giants in front of 66014 at the Hard Rock Stadium.
Lionel Messi, who put in a superb 64-minute performance-opened the scoring after just three minutes and when Ivan Rakitic doubled the lead soon after-the writing appeared to be on the wall for a sluggish Real Madrid side.
Yet Zinedine Zidane’s side quickly woke from their slumber and by the end of the first half-goals from Mateo Kovacic and Marco Asensio had pulled them level.
What followed was entertaining-often breathless friendly fare before Pique struck that decisive goal.
This was nothing more than a pre-season match and obviously wasn’t going to affect the overall record between these two old rivals-which stands at 93 wins for Real, 91 for Barcelona.
Madrid had the last laugh in May, winning La Liga and the Champions League-but actually arrived in Miami off the back of two exhibition defeats - a penalty shoot-out defeat to Manchester United before City also did a number on them in Los Angeles-running out 4-2 winners.
Barca-meanwhile-had beaten United and Juventus in International Champions Cup friendly competition- but the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Neymar and the interest from Paris Saint-Germain has cast a serious cloud over their two-week stay in North America.
The Brazilian started for Ernesto Valverde’s side and while the rest of his team-mates head home he will fly to China to perform commercial obligations on behalf of the club.
To their credit-and much to the obvious delight of the organisers-both teams didn’t hold back with their starting lineups.
Messi and Luis Suarez started in attack while Bale-Modric and Karim Benzema were all unleashed by Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.
For a moment it looked like his evening would be over before it began-though he was back on the pitch in time to see Messi open the scoring with just three minutes on the clock.
The Argentine ace waltzed into the box and lifted a shot past Keylor Navas via a deflection off Raphael Varane.
And it wasn’t long before the Costa Rican international was picking the ball out of the back of the net once again.
On six minutes, Neymar, gradually moving more freely-squared the ball and it found Rakitic-whose finish was clinically struck in the seventh minute.
What a start for Barcelona. Real had barely escaped their own half and were lucky not to fall further behind on 13 minutes when Suarez fired over from close range.
Yet with Madrid’s first effort on goal-Zidane’s side pulled one back.
Croatian Kovacic evaded a challenge just outside the box before arrowing the ball past the outstretched hand of Jasper Cillessen.
Suddenly-the game was on. Benzema-who’d barely had a sniff, dragged just wide on 19 minutes with Cillessen beaten.
Navas remained the busier keeper-however-and was on hand to repel Messi once again on 31 minutes.
It was a key save because on 36 minutes-Asensio levelled for Madrid.
Los Blancos were counter attacking dangerously and it was left to Modric who squared for the Spaniard who took full advantage of Jordi Alba missing the ball to rifle past a horribly exposed Cillessen.
Both teams retained their star men after the restart and it was Neymar whose pinpoint free kick was steered home by Pique in the 50th.
While the clash of the Spanish rivals was supposedly a friendly-Rakitic was lucky to escape a red card just after the hour mark when he appeared to push referee Jair Marrufo.

Clarke terms pay row 'horrible' for game

Former Australian captain Michael Clarke Said about pay dispute between players and Australian cricket board. He said Sunday a bitter pay dispute was “horrible” for the game and their relationship was likely to be in tatters even after a resolution.

Michael Clarke

After months of negotiations-the players and CA have failed to reach agreement on a new pay deal- leaving 230 cricketers unemployed since the end of June when their contracts expired.
CA chief executive James Sutherland said last week that unless intensive negotiations over a revenue-sharing deal produced a compromise by early this week-his organisation would seek the intervention of an industrial umpire to resolve the impasse.
Clarke feared things would not be the same between the governing body and the players if and when the disagreement was finally resolved.
“I think it has been horrible for the game-to be honest” Clarke said told commercial broadcaster Channel Nine.
There is no doubt what has happened will affect the relationship even more than it already was affected between players and Cricket Australia.
“The problem we have got now is that it is not just the Australian players that are affected”-he added, saying the fans and the public were also involved in “the number one story in Australian sport”.
The players were paid from gross revenue for the past two decades-but CA now wants payments to come from a set pool-with players to share only in surplus revenue.
Clarke said he could understand the arguments of both parties but added-“Whatever has been going on, it should have been done in private.
The Test squad is due to go into camp on August 11 ahead of a Test tour of Bangladesh-which is in danger of being scrapped following the boycott of Australia A’s tour to South Africa earlier this month.

Neymar on target as Barcelona sink Manchester United

Neymar on fire again in this week. He shows his quality and skill to the world.  For the second time this week-Neymar was Barcelona's match winner as they beat Manchester United 1-0 in the International Champions Cup on Wednesday.
The Brazilian has been the constant focus of Barccelona's tour of the United States off the pitch as he considers an offer to move to Paris Saint Germain. So far-he has chosen not to speak publicly about the matter but he is done plenty of talking on the pitch in the meantime.

Neymar

Juventus couldn't deal with him at the weekend, with his two goals sealing Barca's 2-1 win, and at the FedEx Field, in front of 80,162 supporters, it was United who failed to keep him quiet.
Antonio Valencia could not deal with Messi's chipped pass and Neymar nipped in-spun 180 degrees and fired past David De Gea from close range.
That was the only goal of the game but there was no shortage of chances-especially in a brilliantly entertaining opening period.
The first opportunity fell United's way when Romelu Lukaku turned Marcus Rashford's pinpoint cross over the bar. But despite the Premier League side being the fitter, given they are much further into their preseason than Barcelona-it was the La Liga team that had the extra quality.
Neymar drew the first of six first half saves from De Gea in the fourth minute-with Messi testing the Spaniard again two minutes later. Less than 60 seconds later it was Luis Suarez's turn-the Uruguayan's drive turned wide by De Gea.
United couldn't deal with the movement of Barca's front three. Leo Messi hit the wall with a free kick and Suarez then shot tamely at De Gea before Neymar finally opened the scoring.
De Gea was again at his best to deny Suarez from six yards moments later-United were then able to breathe a sigh of relief-as Messi-Neymar-Suarez were removed at the break as Ernesto Valverde made ten changes.
The game did eventually open up again towards the end. Anthony Martial shot over before Paco Alcacer should have scored for Barca-denied by Sergio Romero when one-on-one with the Argentine goalkeeper.
Cillessen was called into action again at the other end, making a couple of routine saves before keeping out a dangerous effort from Pogba as Barca held out for their second successive win in preseason-Neymar again writing the headlines.

Dhawan, Pujara centuries hurt Sri Lanka in 1st day of first Test

Shikhar Dhawan played a memorable innings against Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
He smashed a career-best 190 on his Test comeback to lead a brilliant Indian batting assault on the opening day of the first Test against Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

Shikhar Dhawan

The left-handed opener struck 31 boundaries in a blazing 168-ball knock and Pujara joined in with an unbeaten 144 to take the visitors to 399-3 at stumps.

The hosts toiled in the Galle field and suffered a major blow when all-rounder Gunaratne broke his thumb trying to take a catch off Dhawan.
He is set to undergo a surgery Wednesday and is almost certain to miss the rest of the three-Test series.
Dhawan and Pujara put on 253 for the second wicket - India’s highest second-wicket stand against Sri Lanka after skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to bat under an overcast sky.
He drafted into the Indian squad at the last moment, said it was a blow to get out so close to a maiden double hundred.
But more than that, I got out at the wrong time. It was the last over before tea. But the way I was playing, I was confident that I could clear the mid-off fielder and I was almost hitting a boundary per over.
He was out in the last over before tea when he handed a simple catch off paceman Nuwan Pradeep to Angelo Mathews at mid-off.
Kohli was dismissed for three when he tried to pull a chest-high delivery from Pradeep-who took three for 64, but nicked behind instead to Niroshan Dickwella.
Pradeep’s appeal was initially turned down but the decision was overturned by the TV umpire when replays showed the ball had grazed Kohli’s bat.
It was a blow but no major problem for India as Dhawan took the opening day honours, celebrating his return to Test cricket with a breathtaking array of shots.
It was the second time he had scored a century in a single Test session-having made 187 on his debut against Australia—including 106 in one session.
Dhawan scored 126 off just 90 balls between lunch and tea, leaving Virender Sehwag as the only other Indian batsman to score more runs in a single session.
The 31-year-old got a standing ovation from teammates in the dressing room upon completing his fifth Test century.
The innings was especially sweet for Dhawan, who was made to sit out of India’s last 11 Tests following a dip in form.
Dhawan’s last Test century was at the same venue, during India’s 2015 tour of the island nation. India lost the Galle match but went on to win the remaining two games to pocket the series 2-1.
The hosts squandered a golden chance to dismiss Dhawan in his thirties when Gunaratne dropped the batsman at second slip.
Medics rushed to attend to Gunaratne, who was writhing in pain before walking off the ground.
The Indians were given an early jolt when Dhawan’s opening partner Abhinav Mukund edged Pradeep behind to Dickwella in the eighth over.
Mukund, who opened the batting after Lokesh Rahul was ruled out with illness-made 12.
But Dhawan toyed with the toothless Sri Lankan attack, at onbe point hitting new skipper Rangana Herath for two boundaries on the trot.

Ashwin hails India’s rise to top Test ranking

Ravichandran Ashwin showing his skill continuously and he became one of the most Valuable player in Indian's cricket.
Ashwin, who will play his 50th Test against Sri Lanka this week-on Monday hailed India’s rebuilding effort to become the number one Test side.

The 30 year old Ashwin will be one of India’s key players in the match starting in Galle on Wednesday, the first of three Tests.
Ashwin showing his skill continuously and he became one of the most Valuable player in Indian's cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin

India lost the Galle Test then but bounced back to beat the hosts 2-1. That spurred them on to regain their number one Test crown a year later.
'In 2015 I think we were sandwiched in the middle of a leadership takeover. Virat had just taken over in Australia and we came here having played one Test in Bangladesh'-Ashwin said.
'We had set ourselves a lot of goals for each other and I would say we have achieved them and come out with flying colours over the last couple of years as a group.
'We have produced a lot of good cricketers. Some young cricketers have come in and put their hands up and some others have excelled really. That includes me-(Ravindra) Jadeja, Puji (Cheteshwar Pujara).
'Sometimes I feel that even good cricketers lose out in this particular team because of the quality we have in the dressing room'-he added.
Ashwin became the fastest bowler to 250 Test wickets in a one-off match against Bangladesh in Hyderabad in February, his 45th Test.
Looking ahead to his 50th since his debut in 2011 against the West Indies, Ashwin said Sri Lanka would always be special after he resurrected his career there in 2015.
'To come back to a place where I did really well last time in 2015 is like a dream come true, because it was some sort of a momentous occasion for me then because I was on the way back into the Test side'-he said.
The lanky bowling all-rounder has scored 1,903 runs and bagged 275 wickets in 49 Tests. He has scored four centuries and picked 25 five-wicket hauls.

Lionel Messi agrees four-year Barcelona extension

Lionel Messsi

Lionel Messi has signed the new deal with Barca. Barcelona have secured the services of talisman Lionel Messi until 2021, the Spanish La Liga side have announced.
Voted as FIFA's best men's player on five occasions, the Argentinian forward will sign a new deal in the coming weeks once he returns for pre-season training, having agreed terms on a new contract for the 30-year-old - which will see his association with the Catalan club extend beyond two decades. Earlier this year he scored his 500th goal for the side.
Having made his debut aged just 17 back in October 2004, Messi went on to dazzle at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2005, leading Argentina to the title and winning the adidas Golden Ball and Golden Boot. Since, he has helped Barcelona to three FIFA Club World Cup titles 2009, 2011 and 2015, having clinched the UEFA Champions League on four occasions.
For the new deal, Messi-who joined Barca as a 13 year old - has now tied to the club for extra four years, So, Messi will play with Bercelona until 2021.

Mustafizur Rahman given icon status

Mustafizur Rahman

Finally, Mustafizur Rahman given icon status at next BPL. The 5th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is now set to start from November 2; two days before the previously announced date. A proactive Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has started their homework much earlier than usual, and accordingly they disclosed some major information yesterday at a press conference.
Among all the information, the announcement of Mustafizur Rahman as a new icon player and the confirmation of the much talked about five foreign players in the playing eleven hogged the spotlight. Many senior players had expressed their concerns once the BPL governing council disclosed that they were considering five overseas players in the playing XI like in the 2012 and 2013 editions, saying that it will deprive the local players. The governing council however ultimately honoured the opinions of a majority of franchises regarding the issue.
"We, the BPL governing council, also feel the same since now the number of participating teams has increased to eight. A franchise can sign as many foreign players as they want, and whenever they want. We have not put any restrictions on it. One team can field a maximum of five foreign players in the playing eleven and must field a minimum of three. A franchise has to sign at least 13 local players and two overseas players from the draft," he added. The draft is scheduled to be held on September-16.
Mustafizur-who had missed the last BPL as he was rehabilitating following shoulder surgery, will be the eighth icon player after Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, MahmudullahRiyad, Sabbir Rahman and Soumya Sarkar.
"There were seven teams last year so the number of A-plus (icon) players was seven too. Since Sylhet has been added, we have increased the category by adding Mustafizur Rahman. We have also opened up the market for the A-plus players. Bangladesh's senior players had raised the issue with the BCB president last year saying that since they are experienced cricketers, they should not be paid a fixed amount. I feel they will also be paid well this time," said Mallick, adding that since the A-plus players' payment will be negotiated between them and the franchises, the board will not take responsibility. He also said that the payment for players in other grades will be the same as the previous season and that they want to be realistic.
So far,Mashrafe has been signed up by Rangpur Riders while Khulna Titans and Comilla Victorians have announced Mahmudullah and Tamim as their icons respectively, while Shakib will continue with Dhaka Dynamites. Mushfiqur Rahim may join Rajshahi Kings.
Sabbir, Soumya and Mustafizur will now negotiate with the three remaining franchises - Barisal Bulls, Chittagong Vikings and Sylhet and places will be up for grabs until August 24, when the franchises have to announce their icon and retained players from last season. So, Bangladeshi cricket's fans may wait for watching the battle.

Neymar scores twice as Barcelona defeat Juventus

Barcelona defeat Juventus

Neymar showed exactly why Paris Saint-Germain would be willing to pay his €222 million buyout clause by scoring two stunning goals in Barcelona's 2-1 International Champions Cup win over Juventus.
At MetLife Stadium on Saturday--he was Barcelona's best player as the Valverde era began with a win.
It was clear from the start that Juve right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner was not his equal. The Swiss defender had already been dropped twice by Neymar before he even opened the scoring.
Fed by Lionel Messi -- who, judging by the shirts in the stadium and the regular chants of 'Messi,' the majority of the 82,104 crowd had come to see Neymar exchanged a neat one-two with Paco Alcacer before bending the ball brilliantly around Gianluigi Buffon.
That was good for a starter, but what followed 11 minutes later was sublime. Another precision pass from Messi set him free does he really want to leave those passes behind?  But there was still a lot to be done. Not too much, though, as Neymar glided inside from the left, leaving four Juventus defenders on the floor with a variety of stuttering skills before beating Buffon again.
His work done, he was withdrawn at half-time as Valverde made 11 changes on his debut as Barca boss, but not before coming close to completing a hat trick. Messi was the architect again, but this time Buffon stood big to deny Neymar a third goal from the Argentine's scooped pass.
Massimiliano Allegri won't be too disheartened by the way Juventus were taken apart in the opening 45 minutes, though. Just four of the Juve team that began June's Champions League final defeat against Real Madrid started here, with another five Leonardo Bonucci and Dani Alves have since left the club on the bench along with new signing Douglas Costa.
That inexperienced starting lineup meant Allegri was able to gradually improve his side as the game progressed. The introduction of Paulo Dybala, Gonzalo Higuain and Juan Cuadrado -coupled Valverde's avalanche of changes -helped the Italian side get back into the game.
Adrian Ortola had already been forced into a fine save from Dybala when Juve pulled a goal back, Giorgio Chiellini barging in at the far post between Nelson Semedo and Marlon Santos to thump a header into the back of the net.
Chances then began to flow. Denis Suarez missed two good ones for Barca blazing one over and then drawing a save from Wojciech Szczęsny and Higuain swept over for Juve.
Both Allegri and Valverde will have little to complain about. Juve certainly didn't hold back -- there were crunching challenges from Stefano Sturaro and Claudio Marchisio and Barca worked hard for their new boss, pressing intelligently, most notably through Messi.

But for once it wasn't Messi who made the headlines in New Jersey. Like he has been doing for most of the week, albeit for other reasons, it was Neymar, who produced a performance which suggests he doesn't have to leave Camp Nou to become recognised as the world's best player in the future.
